Sand In My Shoes: Four Decades of Sandhills Stories and History (Paperback)

A ranch woman and journalist describes life in the Sand Hills of Nebraska. Marianne's stories are the stuff of day to day life on a Sand Hills ranch collected from decades of columns written for the North Platte Telegraph. Marianne selected the columns for this book before her death in 2007.
(Marianne) had a knack for ferreting out obscure but fascinating stories about people and places tucked away back in the hills. People and places at thge end of trail road, and just as often three ridges over from the end of the trail road. Her 30 years of writing about the Sandhills and Sandhills people did what history books largely fail to do-tell the stories of regular people doing what they do every day, and how they did it 50 years before. It is the history that vanishes with each generation unless a Marianne Beel finds it and writes it down.
